Be choosy not moody

There is something that I need to have drilled into my mind over and over again it is this:

You have the power to pick your mood!

It does not matter if everything in my day goes perfectly or if I get puked on in the third time in one day. I can choose to say I have had a great day!

I bring this up for up for two reasons:

1. I always need this reminder. Especially if I find myself getting upset more often than not—which has been lately. In my defense, it’s HOT here in the Mojave desert and my one year old is teething and cranky as well.

When i was young, I would get so mad at my brother for being annoying and I’d yell, “Max! You make me so mad!” And he responded with the most annoyingly true statement. Every. Single. Time.

“I didn’t make you mad. You chose to be mad.”

I’d huff and stop away to my room grumbling about how annoying little brothers are, then realize he was right and move on with my life.

2. I joined a gym three weeks ago. Shocking, I know! But I did! I am the heaviest I’ve been and realized that needed to change.

So, I join the gym and go a few times. The second week I am there, Rory and Millie are just driving me NUtS!

(Who could be driven nuts by these angels? Right?)

I turn to Rory and say, “Rors, I’m getting my gym clothes on and w are going to the gym. Go grab your shoes.”

He responded with the whinest “Whhhhyyyy” I’ve ever heard come from his mouth and I had to bite my tongue and then I responded, “I am getting frustrated with you and Millie for just being normal kids. I need to go to the gym to run out my frustration so I don’t yell and get mad at you.”

He seemed to notice the panic in my voice or sense the mental breakdown that was sure to come because he complied and afterward the seemed to be little angels again.

You have the power to choose to be mad, happy, sad, pitiful, or whatever you want, no matter what life throws at you! So choose to be happy and laugh because the alternative is just lousy and tiring and so not worth it!
